Holman Street Press: Correspondents
While the study of journalism is formalised by courses and degrees the practice of being a journalist is open to all. There are no letters needed after your name, nor are there limits based on age, geography, or any other personal characteristics.
All you need is the passion to serve your reader – to communicate worthwhile ideas and information to people who want to read about it and may appreciate the effort you have gone to in getting your facts straight.
AYA now resides in Holman Street. A road in Aylesbury of no particular note except for those who live, work or go to school there.
In this project volunteers are journalists, probably writing articles for the first time, and having them published on websites, blogs and in print in one of the numerous remaining locally printed magazines that are delivered to residents throughout Aylesbury and Buckinghamshire.
AYA offers support in the form of feedback on the writing (when it is asked for), and a channel to those publications for your finished articles. A founding principal is the you the young journalists get to choose what you write about because we are dedicated to putting the views and opinions of young people out into the world.
Correspondents?
Because our lives are busy and Holman Street more than ‘walking distance’ from most of Bucks we have been inspired by the BBC Radio 4 programme “From our own correspondent” where journalists from all over the world will send in their written articles to read on the radio allowing UK listeners to hear about what those journalists feel is important in many other parts of the globe.
As a Holman Street Press: Correspondent you will be asked to write from where you live in Buckinghamshire so that readers can share in your viewpoint of your world.
To try this out for yourselves just sign up to be a volunteer as usual, indicating that you are interested in joining the Holman Street Press.
