Web Design
There is more to “Web Design” than coding.
The process of bringing a new website into the world comprises…
- Talking with the Client to identify the aim of the website
- Translating those aims into options and ideas
- Defining the brief for the operation and appearance of a website
- Proposing the design to the Client for approval
- Creating the website to the brief (the coding bit)
- Presenting the Client with the draft website
- Tackling the feedback and requests for changes from the Client
- Launch and official handover of the website to the Client
These activities require a team of people with a range of skills. Creative and critical thinking is needed to distil the information from the Client into workable design ideas. The visual design process is full of rules (that we might break!) about colour and form. Defining the website’s operation deals with visual interface ideas and human behaviour. Applying marketing and money skills helps to focus the design ideas on the areas where they will make a difference.
Collaboration, listening and self-expression are all important skills to use and learn within this project. We are looking for volunteers to give a degree of commitment so that they can follow through working on one Client’s website from start to finish over about 2 school terms, attending for an hour and a half each week (Tuesdays, 4.30 pm to 6 pm at our Holman Street premises in Aylesbury).
At the end of each website project you will be able to add it to your CV as something to which you’ve contributed. Through the process you will come to understand many things about website development that are not obvious: the thinking that goes into their creation.
Join this project by applying to volunteer and tell us why you’re interested in the Web Design project.
